RV Roof Vent – FanTastic vs. Maxxfan Deluxe

One of the big questions when choosing a RV roof vent is: Which one is right for me? It all depends on the particular features you need for your application. Lets take a look at each RV roof vent and I’ll let you know what I chose and why.

The Dometic FanTastic Vents

The FanTastic Vents have a variety of different models from the most basic 3350 with a 3-Speed fan up to the 7350 which has a variable speed fan and a remote control.

The prices range from approximately $349 – $399.

One of the most important features is the rain sensor that will automatically close the unit when precipitation is detected to protect the inside of your RV. Also, The remote on the 7350 will let you set your desired temperature and will automatically adjust the fan to try and maintain it.

Some of the important features of the 7350 model are:

  • Variable Speed Fan.
  • Automatic Dome Lift.
  • Thermostat.
  • Rain Sensor.
  • Remote Control.
  • Reverse.

Maxxfan Deluxe

The Maxxfan Deluxe comes in 3 different models from the most basic 5301K/6401K with a 4-Speed fan, the 5100K/6200K with a 10-speed fan and the 7000K/7500K which adds a remote control and automatic opening and closing.

The prices range from approximately $249 – $349.

One of the most important features is the built-in rain cover that provides full time protection, while fan is on or off. Also, you can use the fan to circulate air in your RV even with the cover closed. The remote on the 7000K/7500K will also let you set your desired temperature and will automatically adjust the fan to try and maintain it.

The difference in the two model numbers is the white lid or smoke colored lid.

Some of the important features of the 7000K/7500K model are:

  • 10-Speed Fan.
  • Automatic Opening.
  • Thermostat.
  • Built-In Rain Cover
  • Remote Control.
  • Intake & Exhaust.

What RV Roof Vent Did I Choose and Why?

I ended up choosing a Maxxfan Deluxe so it could be used while it was raining. For me this was important to always have the capability of air circulation during inclement weather.

From the reading that I’ve done the Maxxfan Fans are voltage sensitive. They need to have a consistent 12v running to them otherwise you many damage the circuitry that controls them. It’s an easy fix…I purchased an inexpensive voltage regulator that will output exactly 12v. Here is the one that I purchased:
